Bon Air Appliance Repair Across a Century of Kitchens
Bon Air began in the 1870s as a summer resort where Richmond families rode the train out to escape the heat, and a handful of Victorian cottages from that era still stand in the historic district along Buford Road. The Bon Air most people know grew up around them in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s: brick ranches, split-levels, and colonials on shaded lots, with Chippenham Parkway along its eastern edge, the Powhite Parkway cutting through, and Huguenot Road and Forest Hill Avenue as the main routes in and out. Richmond Appliance Guys provides appliance repair in Bon Air, VA from our home base in Mechanicsville, and the mid-century kitchens here keep us busy.
Wall Ovens, Cooktops, and the Mid-Century Kitchen
Many Bon Air homes built in the 1960s and 1970s came with a built-in wall oven and a separate cooktop instead of a single range, and plenty still have that layout, sometimes with a second or third generation of appliances in the same cutouts. Both pieces are repairable, and both have their own patterns.
Wall ovens: the oven takes forever to preheat, bakes unevenly, will not hold the set temperature, or the door hinges have given up and the door no longer seals. A bake element with a blistered spot, a worn temperature sensor, or a control board that has stopped responding are the usual causes. See our oven repair page.
Cooktops: one electric burner stays cold while the others work, a smooth glass top has an element that runs on high no matter the setting, or a gas burner clicks endlessly without lighting. Surface elements, infinite switches, and igniters are all replaceable parts. Details on stove and cooktop repair.
Dishwashers of that vintage often sit in a cabinet run that has been remodeled once or twice. When one stops draining, leaks at the door, or leaves dishes gritty, our dishwasher repair work covers pumps, seals, spray arms, and filters.
Refrigerators and Laundry
The rest of the house breaks too. A refrigerator that is warm on the fresh food side, sweating inside, or leaking from under the crisper drawers is a call we know well, and most of those causes are fixable (refrigerator repair). Washers that shake the house on spin, will not drain, or leave a puddle on the utility room floor, and dryers that tumble without heat, round out the list (washer repair).
Repair or Replace?
With appliances this age, the honest question is whether a repair is worth it. Our answer depends on what failed, what the part costs, how the rest of the appliance looks, and whether parts are still available for the model. A single failed element in an otherwise solid wall oven is usually worth fixing. A cooktop with a cracked glass top and two dead elements may not be. We tell you which case you are in before you spend anything beyond the diagnostic fee. Our repair or replace calculator gives a rough starting point if you want to think it through first.
One note for homeowners with older built-ins: we repair wall ovens and cooktops, but we do not install new ones. If replacement is the answer, we will say so and leave you free to plan the install with a retailer or installer.
How Scheduling Works
We book Monday through Friday in two arrival windows, 9 AM to noon and 1 PM to 4 PM. The service call and diagnostic fee is $125, applied to the repair if you go ahead. You get the diagnosis and the price before any work starts, and you decide. Completed repairs carry a 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty.
When you call, have the model number ready. On a wall oven it is usually on the frame behind the door; on a cooktop it is often underneath, and our technician can find it if you cannot. Tell us your street address and whether you are in 23235 or 23236, and mention anything about access, pets, or who needs to approve the work.
Condos, Townhomes, and Rental Properties
Bon Air also has a good number of townhome and condominium communities along Buford Road and Jahnke Road, plus single-family rentals throughout. Property managers and landlords: give our office the resident’s contact and the name of your decision maker. We coordinate with the resident, call you with the price before work, and document the repair for your records.
