Why the Model Number Matters
The appliance model number locator above covers the common household appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, dishwashers, microwaves, washers, dryers, and disposals. Pick yours, choose the style you own where it matters (top-load or front-load, electric or gas, chest or upright), and you get a diagram plus a list of the spots where manufacturers usually put the tag.
We ask for the model number because it changes how the visit goes. With it, our office can confirm we work on your appliance, our technician can pull up the right service information and parts list before leaving the shop, and there is a much better chance the right part rides along on the first trip. Without it, we may find the tag on arrival and then order the part, which means a second visit. Two minutes of hunting on your end can save you days of waiting.
Model Number vs. Serial Number
Most tags carry both, and it is easy to mix them up. The model number tells us which appliance you have: the design, the parts that fit, the wiring. The serial number tells us which one you have: the individual unit and roughly when it was built. For scheduling and parts, the model number is the one we care about most. If you have the serial number handy as well, share it, because it can settle questions about revisions made partway through a model’s run.
Tips for Reading a Worn Tag
Tags live in hard places: behind a crisper drawer, inside a door frame, under a lid, behind a kick plate. A few tricks help. Put your phone’s flashlight on and hold it at a low angle so the printing casts a shadow. Take a photo with the flash on and zoom in on the screen instead of squinting at the tag itself. Wipe the tag gently with a dry cloth if it is dusty, but skip cleaners, which can lift faded printing. If the tag is gone for good, the owner’s manual, your receipt, or the retailer’s order confirmation usually has the model number too.
