Old Houses, Tight Kitchens, and Trains Down the Middle of Center Street
Ashland is the only incorporated town in Hanover County, and it does not look like anywhere else around Richmond. The CSX main line runs straight down Center Street with houses facing the tracks on both sides, Randolph-Macon College fills several blocks of downtown, and the town has called itself the Center of the Universe for long enough that the slogan is on the signs. The community began in the 1800s as a railroad resort, and many of the homes near the tracks and the college date to that era or the decades right after.
Those older houses are wonderful to live in and a little tricky to fit appliances into. Kitchens were laid out for iceboxes and woodstoves, so a modern refrigerator often stands in a spot with an inch to spare, the dryer vents through a back porch wall, and the dishwasher was added under a counter that was never meant for one. Farther out, along Route 54 toward I-95 and up Route 1, Ashland looks more like the rest of Hanover: ranches and colonials from the 1960s through the 1990s, newer subdivisions, and apartment communities near the interstate.
Richmond Appliance Guys serves all of it from our base in Mechanicsville, so appliance repair in Ashland, VA sits squarely inside our regular Hanover County coverage. Call 804-773-0784 on a weekday and our customer service representative will get you scheduled.
Ashland Appliance Repair: The Calls We Get Most
Ashland households call us about refrigerators that are warm on top while the freezer stays cold, and about washers in older homes that shake the floor on the spin cycle because the machine was never leveled on uneven boards. We see stackable washer and dryer units squeezed into closets in rentals and townhomes, ovens whose temperature has drifted so far that Thanksgiving is a gamble, and dishwashers that leave a puddle at the end of every cycle.
- Refrigerator repair, including the counter-depth and compact models chosen to fit a tight older kitchen, plus upright and chest freezers.
- Washer repair and dryer repair for top-load, front-load, and stackable units, including the laundry centers common in student housing.
- Oven repair for gas and electric ovens, wall ovens, and the oven side of a range.
- Dishwasher repair for draining, leaking, cleaning, and latch problems.
We repair GE, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Whirlpool, Roper, Maytag, JennAir, KitchenAid, LG, and Samsung appliances, and LG and Samsung are where our technicians have the deepest experience.
Student Rentals and Landlords Near Randolph-Macon
A college town has a rental market to match. Houses and apartments within walking distance of Randolph-Macon turn over every spring and fall, and an appliance that fails in a rental needs to be handled without a dozen phone calls. If you own or manage rental property in Ashland, give our office your tenant’s contact for access and your own for approval. We call you with the diagnosis and price before doing anything, then send you a record of the repair for your file. Several units? Give our office the whole list and we will work through them.
What It Costs and When We Come
Our appointment windows are 9 AM to noon and 1 PM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. The service call and diagnostic fee is $125, and it is applied to the repair if you go ahead. You will know what failed and what the fix costs before we pick up a tool, and the decision is yours. Repairs we complete come with a 90-day labor warranty and a 1-year parts warranty.
Not sure the appliance is worth a visit? Our Virtual Appliance Diagnostic Call is a 15 to 20 minute video call with one of our technicians, offered Monday through Thursday from 2 PM to 5 PM for $50. If we still need to come out, the $50 is credited toward the diagnostic fee. Some problems cannot be diagnosed over video, but many can be narrowed down, and it is a handy option for a landlord who is not on site.
Before Our Technician Knocks
Three things make an Ashland visit go smoothly. First, the model number, which is on a tag inside the refrigerator, along the edge of the dishwasher or oven door, or under the washer lid. Second, a plain description of what the appliance is doing, including any error code on the display. Third, access notes: whether the washer is on a back porch or in a basement, whether there is street parking or a shared driveway, and whether a tenant will be the one opening the door. Our office confirms your address and model, then offers the next open weekday window.
